APPROVED DEGREES IN ARCHITECTURE:

The Board adopts the list of programs in architecture as accredited and published by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The Bachelor of Architecture programs at the following Louisiana schools are approved: Louisiana State University, Louisiana Tech University, Tulane University, Southern University and A&M Collage, and University of Southwestern Louisiana.

  TABLE FOR EVALUATION OF APPLICATION:

The Board adopts the training requirements for the Intern Development Program (IDP), published by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) in the Circular of Information #1, Appendix B, as its guide in evaluating applications for examination. All candidates initially applying for the exam are required to furnish the State Board Office a complete and approved IDP record (Green Cover) from NCARB for final review and approval by the Board. It is recommended that a candidate enroll in IDP during his last semester of college or immediately upon graduation. All questions relating to IDP should be directed to:

  REGISTRATION EXAMINATION:

The Board finds the content of the Architects Registration Examination prepared by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards as the most practicable to test the applicant's qualifications for registration and adopts it for use in determining the minimum competency needed for registration.

The intent of the examination is to evaluate an applicant's competence in the protection of public health, safety and welfare, to provide the architectural services of Pre-Design, Site Planning, Building Planning, Building Technology, General Structures, Lateral Forces, Mechanical & Electrical, Materials & Methods, Construction Documents & Services as these relate to the social/cultural, natural and physical forces, design process, building systems/materials and methods and other related external constraints.

The subject of Life safety is the basic purpose of the registration examination and this subject permeates the entire examination. The subject of energy conservation is an economic and welfare issue and as a subject is considered through the process of developing architecture.


  REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMITTANCE TO THE EXAMINATION:

A candidate shall either... have a first professional degree in Architecture from an NAAB program of architecture and experience evaluated as per the NCARB Table of Training Requirements for Intern-Architect Development Program (Appendix B.)

Or, not having a first professional degree in Architecture, have filed a formal application with this Board prior to April 1, 1984, and have completed five (5) years of education and/or education equivalents evaluated as per the NCARB Table of Training Requirements (Appendix A) and then experience evaluated as per the NCARB Table of Training Requirements for Intern-Architect Development Program (Appendix B).
