What's Going On?

The Louisiana State Board of Architectural Examiners, the state agency charged with the responsibility of regulating the practice of architecture in Louisiana pursuant to the Architect's Licensing Law, La. R.S. 37:141 et seq., announces the creation of a new position of Deputy Director with such agency. If interested, please see the position description which contains detailed information about the position.

The Louisiana State Board of Architectural Examiners is seeking an individual willing to volunteer his or her time and talents to serve Louisiana's architectural profession as the State Licensing Advisor. This state program is part of a national program of NCARB and AIA.

The State Licensing Advisor is appointed by the Louisiana State Board of Architectural Examiners, from nominations and applications received from individuals or AIA components, for a term established by the Board. It is important to note that the Board retains the right to terminate the appointment at any time the appointee is unable to perform or is found to be unsatisfactorily carrying out the position's responsibilities and duties. The State Licensing Advisor is provided an allowance to cover expenses such as postage, social media, telephone, clerical and travel. Applications will be accepted through October 31, 2017.

Reports regarding the Board's Notice of Intent concerning LAC 46:1. Chapter 22. Louisiana Architecture and Education Research Fund to be published in the Louisiana Register on August 20, 2017, were forwarded to the appropriate standing committees on August 9, 2017 and October 9, 2017.

It is anticipated that the Board will consider the proposed rule for adoption at its December meeting (presently scheduled for December 8, 2017), and the adopted rule will be published in the Louisiana Register on January 20, 2018, or February 20, 2018.

The new rule related to firm registration is now in effect. ALL architectural firms conducting business in Louisiana are now required to register with the Board. A new category has been created for firms who do not fit the requirements for traditional firm registration as a Limited Liability Corporation, an Architectural-Engineering Corporation, or a Professional Architectural Corporation. That new category is called “Architectural Firm”.

In addition, new fees became effective on July 1 for all new applications and renewals.  For more information on the new firm registration categories and fees click here.

The deadline to renew your firm Certificate of Authority for the Period July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 has now passed.

If you failed to get your application in on time, please complete a Delinquent Renewal Form and submit with the appropriate payment ($150 for in-state firms, $300 for out-of-state firms).
